2-3 people : 5kg
3-4 people : 6kg
5-6 people : 7 or 8kg
The energy efficiency of a washing machine is determined by how much electricity is needed to wash a kilogram of dirty clothes, which is shown in the table below in the column "Electricity/kg".
Larger sized washing machines tend to be more efficient compared to smaller machines. Technically, you could buy a larger machine and wash your clothes on alternate days instead of every day. However, the difference in purchasing price is not balanced by the electricity savings.
So purchase the size of washing machine you need such that you can do a load of laundry every day. And then choose the most energy efficient washing machine in that size.
Compare washing machines by power consumption below. We have only shown those machines available in Pakistan that gave at least some electricity consumption information, e.g. electricity per wash, electricity per year, or Efficiency Class.
The electricity bill calculations assume that the washing is done once a day. The electricity rates assumed are those typical for middle class households (using less than 300 units a month), i.e. Rs. 13.71 + tax.
